CPIC/Council/CFT Meeting update - 06/08/2021
Cornwall Partners in Care hold weekly briefings with Cornwall Council and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation trust. These meetings involve Jonathan Price (Joint Director Adult Care and Health for Cornwall Council and NHS Kernow) and occasionally colleagues from the Council, David Smith (CPIC Chairman), and representatives from the CPIC Committee.
Daily update - 6th August 2021
Jonathon was on leave today so we met with Kate, Val, Carolyn Montgomery and Claire Hall-Davies. We discussed the following;
- The disbursement of unspent Infection Control monies will be discussed by the Council Senior Management Team on Monday. A proposal to consider additional kit for Pulse Oximetry will also be considered at this meeting.
- A draft survey on recruitment issues had been circulated for comment. Val reported that a new Proud to Care recruitment campaign had not produced much in terms of responses.
- Kate provided an overview on Voluntary and Community support which is available to make sure people are safe at the point of discharge, and stated that work was progressing to provide Providers with a pack of information to detail the support which is available.
- Andy Brelsford - Support and Development Manager for Volunteer Cornwall made a presentation to detail available support from a team of around 3,000 volunteers. Some of this work was preventative alongside Pathway 0 and Pathway 1 support working with STEPS or Community Coordination Centres (hubs). Reablement volunteers also work alongside STEPS to provide a safety net after 6 weeks of STEPS provision. Andy stated that a strategic objective was to work in a more joined up way with the Public and Independent sectors. Phil and Christine asked how this could be achieved. It was noted that Ann Thomas Chief Executive of Cornwall Care was co chair of the Care Alliance and it was suggested that conversations could be expanded to achieve partnerships in certain areas with certain Providers to work together.
- Jayne Price explained the VCSE Collaborative offer to provide a well managed and sustainable discharge to prevent deterioration, and to join things up to provide a coordinated approach.
- In response to a question from Mary, Andy confirmed that they have enough volunteers to meet demand with an even geographical spread, but there is less flexibility now as a lot of volunteers have returned to work. Mary also stated that other Providers in addition to Cornwall Care are able to offer day support. There was also a discussion around involving younger people and that volunteering could provide a pathway for long term employment in the sector. Kate also suggested that Council employed staff could be more involved, and Val agreed to raise this in the next Communication bulletin.
- Val offered to forward the presentation slides so that they could be circulated to the CPIC membership. It was also acknowledged that this was the first collaborative session and that there should be another follow up meeting in about 2 months time.
That's it for now - the next meeting with Jonathon is on Monday starting at 10.00am. Have a good weekend everybody.
